We are in the process of having our floors refinished now.
The floors had carpets for 30+ years and were removed- pet urine stains.
Unfortuantely most of them did not come out as much as we had hoped.

So in order to hide them, i chose a darker stain than I had wanted- antique brown. Floor guy said it would hide the stains. I t does but i AM SO unsure about the effect. Our house does not have tall ceilings and is not huge. DO I have any choices at this point?

I am interested in going gloss or semi-gloss poly and hoping that this will bring a lot of light and depth back into the floor. Right now with only the stain it looks horrible.

can stain be removed- but if I go that way, then I still have urine stains to deal with. There are too many to cover with rugs.

somebody please give me some good advice!

Dark wood floors are sort of in style right now. Many upscale homes have them. Is there a medium stain that would help disguise the stains and maybe make it look like it is part of the wood coloration? Just a thought. Jay

I know, everyone tells me that dark is in but i am not one to follow that......

they just put the stain down yesterday and looking at putting first poly coat tomorrow. We tried a maple color and the stains were visible through it as well.

The thing with lighter look of the wood was that it made the place lighter...will the semi gloss bring light back into my house?

Wow, those stains must have been pretty bad. Give the darker floors a chance. I painted our kitchen a bright yellow while my wife was away (she could not make up her mind on color) and she hated it at first. After a couple of days it grew on her and now she loves it. Sometimes it just takes time. Good luck, Jay

IMO, going for a high gloss finish can be a bit tricky as it may enhance the appearance of the stain. Also with time, high gloss tends to enhance the appearance of scratches becoz of the reflective surface...
