Have you (or anyone here) been to Cobbs Mill recently? I understand there are new owners but have not heard if the food has improved. The place though is very charming, one of the most charming I have ever been in. You have to love the mill pond and waterfall. Would love to check it out one of these days. Jay

We like Sage in New Haven. It's on the water. No walking to drinks from the restaurant but you can surely drive the couple of minutes to downtown and find walk/have a drink there. Happy Anniversary!

I didn't know the ownership had changed... I'll give it a shot again. The setting is beautiful. There was no excuse for their food though under the previous management.

LOL. I've only experienced Cobbs Mill and i can very safely say that the dining room wasn't filled with octogenarians. 30's-50's on the Saturday evening that i was there.

Here's a few from my favorites around the state:

Griswold Inn - Essex
Stone House - Guilford
Mayflowwer Inn - Washington
The Inn at Newtown - Newtown
Redding Roadhouse - Redding
The Red Barn - Westport
The Smithy - Monroe

Have fun!

I would consider a quaint TOWN or VILLAGE that has lots of good restaurants and bars. New Canaan might be a first recommendation, since there are lots of good, romantic restaurants like Aloi, or Ching's Table, or Sole. Then there's Ridgefield. And also Essex. And Rowayton--even if he doesn't like seafood, the Rowayton Seafood Restaurant can fix him a great steak. Finishing dinner and going for a walk in any of these villages would be a great

this is a new restaurant in southport/fairfield line. Martel Restaurant of Fairfield CT is a relaxed bistro & bar serving great food and a robust selection of wines, 203-292-6916
kinda far from town to walk but u can park in town and walk around. dont go to red barn or cobbs mill in...you def will be way too young. Positano's Waterfront Italian Restaurant in Westport, CT offers a romantic atmosphere serving Italian Cuisine, seafood and more (http://www.positanoswestport.com/index2.htm - broken link) is in westport but not that much further from fairfield.
