Models showing insane temps coming over us. Possible single digits during the day for January.

Looking at the day 10 forecast is almost scary. 23 high Tuesday & Wednesday then 30 high for Thursday. Snow showers Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday.

The 10 day don't seem out of the ordinary.

The single digits for highs in January, which means likely lows below zero ... ugh. That won't be pretty.

I can't wait for my father/grandfather/uncle to start up and down denying global warming because of a freak mesoscale weather pattern which seeps this far south.

We have a week or so of single digits every year. My husband works outside... every year, usually in January but sometimes in February, he's had a miserable week or so of highs around 8 degrees. The same weather patterns repeat themselves over and over again.... it's normal.

That's funny because according to Webster dictionary:

Freak - 3 : one that is markedly unusual or abnormal.

All this time I thought balmy weather in January in Connecticut was the true freak weather pattern and not so much the icy cold weather that Connecticut winters are known for.

8 degrees for a high isn't normal, even in January. It can happen, but it's out of the ordinary it gets that cold.

What's unusual about single digits in January? Put a checkmark in the Record Low box for Hartford, CT and you'll think single digits is just toasty.

Where in your attachment does it say we're getting single-digit high temps next month? The 10-day shows some cold weather but not THAT cold.....

And as for Dockside's post, usually when you get those -10 or so record lows, it's a clear night with no wind and radiational cooling lets the temperature drop like a rock. So the high for the day on those kinds of days can be 25, 30, even 40 degrees higher than the low. I believe in Hartford you actually see a single-digit high temp only once a decade or so. And the number of below zero high temps in history, if it's happened at all, can probably be counted with your fingers. I know that in NY City (where it's a bit warmer) that has never happened and I think there's only been a couple of days that even had a single-digit high temp.
