Be prepared for the weather. I moved here from California and hate the weather here. Last year it rained all summer and snowed/rained all winter. My kids are going crazy from not getting to play outside. It is a tough transition! We just applied for a position in Fl and SC. Anything to get the heck out of Connecticut. Good luck and expect the weather so that you are not too bummed about being stuck in the house.

Hey there fellow Floridian! We moved from Satellite Beach (originally from Orlando) about 4 years ago. The snow takes some getting used to, but not really necessary for snow tires. Honestly, the rain storms of Florida can be a bit worse than driving in the snow. Now it's the ice you'll have to get used to. I live in Manchester on the Glastonbury/Bolton line. Have you checked out Manchester or Glastonbury? Both are nice. Email me direct and I'd be happy to give you lots of tips for the big move.

PS. I LOVE it here and would never head back to FL. (Unless I win Powerball and can buy that yacht and a house in Palm Beach) )

Hi! Welcome to CT! I made the move from St. Augustine, FL to Manchester, CT 2 years ago. I was used to geographically large towns living in FL, where you could drive straight for 20 minutes without stopping and still be in the same town! In CT, towns are smaller so you feel like commuting is a breeze. I was amazed that Hartford was only a 15 minute drive from Manchester.
Becoming a Yankee was weird at first but we are enjoying the seasons and seasonal activities. Be prepared for the shock in cost of living increases, especially when looking at yoiur first paycheck and gassing up your car- the folks on this forum were not exaggerating. You can find sweet tea at McDOnald's but nothing like good ol' Southern brewed sweet tea!
