I am in need of a new GPS unit. I have tired of using my iPhone for GPS. If I need to make a call, it can be a hassle if I am relying on the phone to get me around. I have an old Tom Tom, but the maps are way out of date. Now you can get a decent GPS for about $100 with lifetime maps and traffic.

I am leaning towards the Garmin, but wanted others input before I decide.

I would like the GPS to use traffic feature and let me know of alternative routes if possible. I also want to look for things enroute. For example, let's say I am going from point A to point B, but I want to stop at a Subway on the way. I want it to find the closes Subway on the way and let me know the entire route. Of course, I want to use point of interest things so I can find closest store, restaurant, etc.

I am budgeting $100 or so for this.

Here are a couple of ones I am looking at:

Amazon.com: Magellan RoadMate 2045T-LM Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Maps and Traffic: GPS & Navigation

Magellan RoadMate 2145T-LM 4.3" Portable GPS

Amazon.com: Garmin nüvi 1350LMT 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates: GPS & Navigation

Thanks for any tips!

I bought this one when it was $89.99 at cabelas.com a few months ago, really pleased with Garmin GPS units. Everytime I have rented a car with GPS in the past they were all outfitted with Garmins...
Garmin® nüvi® 40LM

I haven't used a Magellan in years. My Garmin Nuvi 50 is awesome, compared to the European off-brand unit it replaced.

I researched a lot. Garmin hands down. Went into best buy &
Spent more than I think I need - nuvi 25555. Coming out w/ new
Models in April (according to them). Last years models are getting
Hard to find. The updates are now 89.99 if you don't buy lifetime.
Don't know if you really need to. A friend unpacked & went on vacation.
Loves it. I'm waiting for updates to download. ..

Did some homework and realized all sub 100 dollar units are that cheap for a reason. I am wanting free lifetime maps and updates, agree with other that Garmins are good, Nuvi are better, Toms Toms are okay and Magellan's are crap. A quality Nuvi is running around $159.99. European maps, Bluetooth, voice recognition and screen size affect your tastes and wallet.
