When we were saving for our first house we didn't do much. We had an old Book of Hoyle and we taught ourselves every two person game in it. This was long enough ago that 20% down was a requirement for a house loan.

I think inability to learn new things for old people goes hand in hand with how you lived your life. My father has never used an ATM. They've been around long enough that he wasn't old when they came out, but he always went to a teller. It's no wonder that he won't try and learn how to use a streaming device now that he is in 80's.

The traditional things that people used to do are growing more and more expensive. My father misses the plain old telephone system, but my friend pays $94 a month for POTS and won't give it up. The newspaper is $500 a year now. Out west they charge you to go to a teller. Television is very expensive today if you can't receive things on an antenna.

My mother is as tech unfriendly as you can get and she does just fine with an antenna and a Smart TV. She only does Netflix so she presses the Netflix button on the remote and is good to go. Then just presses the TV channel up/down buttons to watch the OTA channels.

Antenna is one that I built out of scrap wood, coat hangers and an amplified connector.
