I have been Googling this afternoon as see that there is an AV box that should accompany the tv, of course I don't have that. So I guess my question is do I need the AV box in order for the tv to work??? Will it work with other boxes like the Apple Itv or Google TV. I am confused by this whole situation.

That's an old TV and from what I remember of those AQUOS displays ALL of the various connections ran through the AV box, not the TV. Bascially, the only thing that will plug into the TV is the AV box, all of the other connections are on the AV box. The TV
will not work without that AV box.
The AV box itself has the following connections from what I could find:
2x Y/Pr/Pb HD component video inputs
4x composite/S-video inputs
2x coaxial inputs
1x DVI input
There are also outputs to go to different components and I believe some front inputs as well.
What you need to do is get an AV box and then you can hook up the FiOS box using the component video inputs which will give you a HD signal. The other option would be to use a HDMI cord with a DVI input adapter. Boxes like Apple TV or Google Chromecast use HDMI. The Apple TV may work with a HDMI to DVI adapter, but Chromecast will most likely not work at all.
I would personally recommend only using devices that support component or composite video with this TV as even with a HDMI to DVI adapter, I doubt the TV/AV box will be able to handle all of the current HDMI "handshake" protocols.
