Hi Group,

I have a vintage Yahmaha YP-211 Turntable in great working condition which was given to me by a dear late friend.
It works but I have to "tune it up" and would probably get a new cartridge for it, to really make it sound good!

My question is this.....is this turntable as good as a new/modern one?

I am matching it with my 2019 [new] system of the following:

Onkyo TX NR 757 7.2 Receiver/Amp (180 w/ch)
Yahmaha Aventage BD-A1060 BL Blu Ray/Multi Disc Player
Klipsch 7.2 speaker system [8 speakers]
Pioneer CT - W-4000 dual cassette deck

I've been doing lots of reading/research on this Yahmaha YP-211 Turntable, and it was a 'mid-level' TT of the mid-late 70's, but …"can sound really good if you take the time to properly mount & align the cartridge"'
…"The use of a proper alignment *** and quality Tracking Force Scale will make all the difference".
as I read in one YP 211 discussion.

Then there is the WORLD of Cartridge choices...Moving Magnet, Moving Coil, Conical or Elliptical Stylus,
Ortofon, AT, $100, $200, $300, $600 there really isn't a price ceiling on these little Diamonds.

What is your opinion of this 'old biscuit' of a Turntable, as opposed to a 'shiny-new-$$$-Turntable?

IF I stay with this turntable, WHAT CARTRIDGE would you recommend as a good quality replacement?

Dazed and Confused with all of this!
Irv in Peru..…..sweating with everyone else in this Darn Heat/Humidity!

Belt drive?
If belt, then it will need a replacement.

I don't consider that vintage. They're of high quality, and I say go for it.

The really, really high quality turntables are the Thorens.

I had a Nashville musician buddy with two Thorens turntables hooked up to tube McIntosh components and Altec Voice of the Theatre speakers out of a recording studio. Sound never got better than that.

You would probably need to spend $400+ for something better new
