How can I record shows via Roku? I want them to watch on my tablet when I'm away from home. I do not have a cell phone, thus the desire to have the shows record to USB drive. Maybe a device with hdmi in and out with a usb input to record. Does this even make sense?

I don't think you can record directly through Roku.

The streaming app might have a DVR capability.

"Your Roku® streaming player or Roku TV™ provides you with access to stream movies and TV shows over the internet, but does not have built-in storage for downloading or recording directly to the device. However, you can schedule and store recordings to a content provider’s online storage center if their streaming channel offers a cloud DVR feature.

Some channels that offer this feature with a paid subscription include Sling TV, Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, fuboTV Premiere, and Philo."

Fubo streaming service has cloud based DVR for recordings.

I bought a cheap DVR from WalMart a while ago but never used it. I have to try it and see how it works. I bought it to have control over the content I record.

Most streaming services offer a way to download content for offline viewing.
