I am a major fan of Forensic Files and have approx 80 episodes DVR'd and have enough memory for another 350 episodes, but I am beginning to wonder what can I do when the memory is gone. I thought about getting a DVD recorder, but that seems like a ton of work and DVD's are really a dying technology, so now I am at a loss. Is there any device out there that will hold that much AND be able to playback when needed? I used to think I was somewhat "with the times" when it came to technology, but this has me stumped a bit.
1 gigabyte of storage can hold roughly 1-7 hours of video depending on the quality. They have 2 Terabyte USB storage drives you can pick up and simply keep adding more drives as need or move to bigger ones as they are released.
Look up some programs for DVD conversion to other formats and then convert them all to the format you desire. You should then be able to play them with most multimedia players on your machine or through various means connect it to your TV.
Yep, check newegg.com and look up "portable media" or "media device" or "external media". I even found a few under external hard drive
They have portal media devices that act as hard drives but can also play back media on a television set. The prices differ depending on how big the storage is on them and who makes the media device.
I wouldn't even worry about long term storage of stuff like this. Netflix has 'em, any episode you want can come in the mail in a couple days. Within a few years it'll probably be all be on-demand digital.
