My wife and I just returned from Tennessee. While there, we explored different areas around Cookeville and Crossville, spoke to people, and looked at vacant land on which to build a retirement home in 7-8 years. We selected a 4 acre lot in Cumberland Cove, near Monterey. As soon as the financing goes through, we will be property owners in Tennessee. Even though it was 98 to 102 degrees each day, we enjoyed our stay in Tennessee. We found the state to be beautiful and people were friendly.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. It has been extremely hot the past week or so (and still is . . . it's predicted to be 102 tomorrow in Nashville).

Welcome to Tennessee.

Congratulations! Cumberland Cove really is a beautiful development. I think they've done a great job of not destroying the environment while building the roads and such. There are some great views there of the surrounding hills and valleys. And don't worry, it's not this hot for very long. In a couple of months the area around Cumberland Cove will be bursting with fall colors and much cooler weather.

Wow! Congratulation! Were you able to get any pictures while you were there? When we go back in December to look around we'll have to drive by and check it out. So really, was the heat that bad compared to the Sacramento area?

We're been setting records here. Yesterday we broke the former record high by two degrees in Nashville.

Hi CAtoGA,

We took a few pictures of the downtown Cookeville area. I'll try to get some posted today if I can figure out how to do it. My first attempt was unsuccessful.

Cookeville has everything you will ever need. There are stores, restaurants, and medical facilities everywhere. The only store that my wife now frequents, but could not find in Cookeville is Macy's. She likes to buy her clothes there.

Because of the humidity, the heat was worse than in the Sacramento area. It was uncomfortable, but not enough to make me change my mind about retiring in Tennessee. I understand that the high temperatures we experienced while we were there (98 to 102 degrees each day) are unusual for Tennessee and this normally does not occur for such a long period of time.

Cumberland Cove, where we are buying our lot, is beautiful. It is totally wooded, but has paved roads, electricity, and telephone lines throughout. The residents of Cumberland Cove have voted overwhelmingly for water lines to be installed. We were told this should happen within the next 2 to 3 years. If you want to see our lot while you are there in December, send me a private message and I'll give you more information on its location.

Good luck in finding that special place in Tennessee.

There's Macy's in Nashville. It's not that far of a drive for someone in Cookeville; they could drive to Nashville and shop at Macy's and at Green Hills or Cool Springs (those two malls have the more upscale fashions).
