This is my 5th winter here in the Cookeville area and so far this is the most bearable winter, weather wise. It started off bitter cold back in December with that polar vortex type cold snap that lasted a few days but lately it's been great. Yesterday we had crystal clear blue skies which was a very welcome sight. Today light flurries but above freezing temps. Is this the normal Tennessee weather? Seem's like the last 4 winters I experienced here was unusual with severe weather, like extreme cold or unusual warm weather sparking severe thunder storms. I'm hoping this is the start of normal Tennessee weather patterns.

2009-10 and 2010-11 winters were extremely frigid. Lots of snow...and very cold. It was so cold seven years ago to allow for outdoor hockey here.

And it was only three years ago that we were at and around 0° for a bit.

You are correct...this has been a very mild winter so far....this seems to be the mildest winter recently...if I recall correctly, 2011-12 winter was fairly mild...but not as warm as it has been this year.

On Thursday, hopefully Chattanooga Chuck will let us know that springtime is closer rather than further away....and like you I hope for more normal winter weather patterns.

I moved to Tennessee in the Fall of 2012 from Southern California where I had lived all my life. California had been having unusual weather also before I left but it was different, they had little rain and warmer than normal temps causing a drought. That unusual weather continued and got worse until just recently when they started getting rain and snow, and lot's of it. They are now saying the long term drought might be over.

That's been great news. Funny how things turn, with the drought here recently....and wildfires.

Whether it is a normal winter here or not, I will take it any day. We lived four years in Utah, and that was enough snow to last me the rest of my life.

I am seeing some green in my yard, and that excites me. Spring can't be too far away.

You guys! I keep putting Cookeville to the top of my list & now you're saying February is not nice. What's a person to think?

Were not saying February is not nice, just the coldest month. Over the past decade or so, weather has been not so normal but this is not exclusive to Cookeville. Hopefully this will change and we go back to normal weather patterns. I have a feeling it will.

60°+ today...crazy even for Tennessee on the last day of January. Maybe Chattanooga Chuck will have that good news come Thursday.

It's too early for daffodils. I've seen some blooming. But I live close to Chattanooga though.
