Hi John, this is the first time I using this search tool, I'm a little green, please bear with me. My husband & I are seriously thinking of moving to Cookeville/Crossville area after we sell our house here in Miami (might take awhile). Have been searching the net for homes and agree the prices are just right. But after reading some old and not so old posts got a bit of cold feet when it comes to jobs. I don't retire for another 10 yrs and currently working at a law firm as Accounts Payable, husband is a mechanic, we're both bi-lingual (Spanish). Have been in Miami for the last 30 yrs (originally from NYC) and it's getting a bit crowded here and talk about extremely expensive. We don't call this place "Insurance Hell" for nothing. Cookeville came up because we purhased some property over 10 yrs ago in Cumberland Cove and have visited on and off. I am looking forward to small town living for a change of pace. How is the job situation? Who are your Cable/DSL, cell phone providers? How about electric or gas companies? Water/sewer or city? Home and car insurance average? Any help would be truly appreciated.

Default land

John1960,
Thanks for your offer of info help. My wife and I are considering land in Cookeville to build our small (less than 1000 sq. ft.) home. I know this is more of a realtor question but...is land in the $10-$20K range usually in a good part of town? (Are there any bad parts?) Should we consider something less expensive or more? We don't want to pay more than $20K but if we have to we will consider up to $30K. Thanks in advance for any help you can give us or feel free to suggest any links to check out.

Hmm, John may be back down again, but being the good man that he is I am sure he will be back up, so to speak. Of course, there are three sides to every situation so one may never know what the truth is. If John doesn't answer soon you may want to DM him with your questions or open them up to others, like JMT, our most enthusiastic Cookeville supporter.

I'm glad you are considering moving to our fair state.

Hi, People need to PM me about cookeville. I have good news and bad news about what I have learned from living here for 15 years. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner but I've been painting my rental house inside for the last few days.

Thanks, John

Let's hear some of your good news and also some of your bad news. I think that would be pretty interesting.

Yeah...lay it out. We will 'eat the watermelon & eat out the seeds'

I'm interested in the pro & cons related;
* Yearly weather
* Housing...living in a residential neighborhood & away from close neighbors
* The influence of the college & culture...is there a war between old school and new school
* The religious culture and it's influence in daily life, especially downtown
* City services
* Closest major airport
* Whatever you want to share
