A 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall that annually travels to communities across the country will be coming to Putnam County for the first time in April.

Putnam County is one of nearly 40 cities and the only one in Tennessee selected from more than 100 applicants to host The Wall That Heals, a traveling exhibit that honors more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who lost their lives there.

More info about this event. This is a pretty big deal and is quite an honor to host the wall. Trucks carrying the wall will arrive tomorrow at around 4pm with a police escort. Anyone who's able is encouraged to stand along the route and wave American flags as the trucks and police escort drive up Jefferson Ave to the courthouse square, then north on Washington to the Putnam County Sports Complex just north of Cookeville HS.

It will take a day to build the wall, after which an opening ceremony at 10am Thursday will unveil the wall. It will then be available free of charge for public viewing, 24 hours a day, until this Sunday. The ceremony will feature various dignitaries as well as local resident and country music star Aaron Tippin.

The Wall holds the names of the more than 58,000 Americans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The opening ceremonies will provide a special tribute to the those listed on The Wall from the Upper Cumberland with a spotlight on the nine names of those from Putnam County.

Cookeville-Putnam County is among the first to host a new, larger exhibit which includes a three-quarter scale Wall replica that is 375-feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. With the new replica at this size, visitors will be able to experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C. For the first time in the history of The Wall That Heals, visitors will be able to do name rubbings of individual service member's names on The Wall.

This is pretty awesome. Can't wait to see it! Husband and I are coming to visit and explore Cookeville for a little bit, see if we like it enough to move there.

This is a traveling exhibit, so it's no longer in Cookeville. It's somewhere in Georgia this weekend and then off to South Carolina after that. Cookeville was its only stop in Tennessee.
