Hello y’all

This is my first post in this forum, so I would like to introduce myself briefly. I’m a twentysomething years old engineer from corpus Christi, Texas. I was born here, but my mother is a German citizen. My father, on the other hand, is American and, like most of my family, lives in Texas. When i was a child my parents got divorced and my mother went back to Germany with me. Here she had my name changed to her maiden name (before that I bore my father's name from birth).

Today, many years later, i want to get married. My future wife and i would like to take my birth name, but that is not possible in Germany. German law does not allow me to get my American last name back. I now hope that i can take my birth name back in texas because i have both citizenships, american and german. Can you tell me if that is possible and what should i pay attention to?

Thank you in advance! Best wishes,
Adival

Wow, that's great news, thank you for the reply!

I looked at the link and understood the content on a large scale. Now I have one more question: The Texas Family Code ch. 45 subchapter B does not say whether I have to be located in Texas (maybe it is there and I missed it, could be the language barrier). I live in Germany and am afraid that this could be a problem.

Thank you again in advance!

I'd assume if you have a Texas birth certificate then yes you could do it here. You'd need a local lawyer to show up and do the court work on it. I believe it's a family law specialty. You can find board certified lawyers here https://www.tbls.org/findlawyer You can call and ask them the process and whether it's possible to do remotely or not.
