There was near “mutiny” aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel recently as passengers demanded refunds and complained of a “holiday from hell.”

The 14-day cruise, which left Southampton on September 27, was meant to dock in France, Amsterdam, Norway and Iceland. A stop in Amsterdam was switched to Le Havre, a passenger told Cruise Radio. However, high winds prevented the ship docking there. A stop in Iceland was canceled, and passengers were unable to disembark at Greenock, near Glasgow.

This has been all over the news the past few days. I hope those who are rioting realize safety is more important than seeing a port. Anyone who is a seasoned cruiser at all know this can happen, especially when cruising in the fall. They were offered a 25% off on their next cruise which is not something they had to do.. We have been on ships where weather has cancelled ports. The most we have ever gotten is an hour's free cocktails and our port charges back. On CC a few people who are on the ship have said, the rioters were totally out of control and for the most part the cruise has been a good one. It has been nice hearing the other side of the story instead of reading about it in papers who love to sensationalize everything or read it on blogs that do the same. Social media has replaced common sense in my opinion.

We are leaving early tomorrow on a cruise and we knew very well the day we booked it the time of the year could play a part in possible bad weather. It appears we are going to be just fine, but we did know we were taking a chance.

People need to realize that cruising at certain times of the year comes with risks, and if they choose to roll the dice, have no room to complain. Cruise lines cannot control the weather and make safety a priority. The cruise fee was probably cheaper at this time of the year, not sure, I have never, nor ever plan on cruise during this time of year, not willing to run the risk.

Every cruise line has fine print that says they have the right to change the itinerary.

I bet the people who were complaining the loudest would be among the first to file a lawsuit if the ship stuck to its itinerary in bad weather and they fell when the ship pitched suddenly, or got bad seasickness.

If those passengers think they had it bad they should be in the middle of a hurricane in the ocean on a cruise ship. Floating bleach jugs were not made to go thru a hurricane. Thats a truly bad experience.
