However, extending the outright ban on sailings is still being argued by the powers that be. Maybe the administration will again ignore the advice of the CDC so the industry can resume business, albeit with extensive restrictions and new expenses that will dramatically decrease their profit margins. But at least they would have some cash flow.

If the cruise industry can't get going again soon, I believe that many (most?) will be financially devastated - just like the movie theater industry. Cruise companies will experience Chapter 11 bankruptcies (like AMC), permanent closure of selected locations (Regal is in the process of this, and may announce that they are going to try to sell the business), Chapter 7 for small chains and single location theaters.

IMHO, if I were booked on a cruise for anytime in the future, I'd be taking the cash if it's cancelled. The offer of free bonuses and credits is worth pennies or nothing in a chapter 11.

Yep. Hard cash is what I would take.

Plus even if they start cruising again, the number and nature of all the restrictions will make it so much less fun for a long while. Not for me.

I wouldn't feel safe cruising until late 2021. And that is assuming there's a vaccine out and available by then. I certainly wouldn't set foot on a cruise ship before there is a vaccine.

How much will one of those smaller (slightly used) cruise ships go for?

Cruising is a luxury I can do without, period. Been on 3 cruises, and in no way would I risk my health for it.

I would even consider it until at least 2022.
