It's hard to find a cruise ship cabin that doesn't come with a telephone or a television. Miniature refrigerators and security safes also are de rigueur. But a computer in every room?

trust me it wont be free wifi. they know you are addicted to CDF and they guna make some money on it. but not tonight josephine, i ship out saturday and no internet for 1 week.
If they charge as much as $1/ MINUTE for simple phone service, just imagine what they will charge you for an afternoon surfing the internet.
Sounds like a great idea (for the cruise company's bottom line, that is)! Buy cheap laptops and put them in cabins to encourage internet use (at typical cruise line confiscatory rates). Makes it easier for passengers to access a key profit center, not unlike the ubiquitous minibars (with their $5. candy bars and bottled water).
The rates the cruise lines charge passengers for internet access is obscene. On my last cruise (Holland America) a crew member told me that they could buy internet access cards to stay in contact with family back home, surf for news, etc. for around a $1/hour.
