Sorry, this theory you stated got blown out the water when the Richard Sherman episode happened. People were so quick to grade Sherman as a thug. Not knowing he conducted the interview just seconds after making a play that put them in line for a world title, you have no idea what emotion that will put you in. Also, they had no idea about his academic accomplishments or the fact he had no criminal record.
No; the thug NFL thing has been around long before. Even academics can act like thugs and Sherman certainly made his own issue. At the least he was a bad example of a representative of the sport which many see has a thug sport by actions time and again. Many players just commented that it was typical Sherman.
Let's be honest, figure skating isn't exactly the NFL. Much different environment that those players play in. It is the ultimate in American machoism. I don't think think any sport in the Olympics gives an apple to apple comparison.
Not fair comparing a global event (centuries old) that occurs only once every 4 years to a silly domestic sport
Boxing, Hockey, wrestling are all in the Olympics.
You have to either admit Sherman acted like a child OR the NFL breeds idiot behavior. Neither one excuses Sherman.
Football players have good and bad just like every other profession. How many lives ruined by greedy corporate bigwigs and Wall Street traders? Do we call them thugs and not allow any CEOs in our homes as a result?
Plenty of NFL good guys just as there are corporate good guys. It just isn't as sensational to get people to click on the story.
Well, obviously people call them thugs since thug means criminal.

And the WORST part IMO, is at the end where it said the couple went home TOGETHER!
What a dumb bi*ch!
One time, only ONE TIME.
You hit me, and you are GONE. Like the wind, like last week's paycheck, like the dodo. GONE period!
I just don't get these women that go back to these douche bags.
Which explains why really, few women are the "victims". They know what these guys are capable of. Yet they consort with them, dress the way they do to please them, then wonder why they get abused, raped, and sometimes murdered.

Women that get abused, raped, and killed are legitimate victims.

I certainly agree with that statement. I personally think women who are attracted to and chase after this kind of character know what they are in for but think the rewards outweigh the risks. The way some of these NFL throw their money around is an open invitation to the less than independant and educated woman to Come and Get It. That kind of money and lifestyle is very appealing to some women. I'm baffled by Mike Tyson. He certainly is a thug and he has been married to a doctor (or two). Now I guess I'm stereotyping doctors as being intelligent and of high integrity.
Now Evander Holyfield was a neighbor of mine for many years. I don't think of him as a thug at all...just a professional boxer who gave as well as he got. never heard anything negative about him except his association with a prosperity gospel preacher with less than ethical reputation , Creflo Dollar.
