I hope she spends a lot of time in jail to think about how stupid she was, her cell should be covered with pictures of ducks and of the man and his daughter.
Speeding? theres speeding then theres speeding he was going with the flow of traffic on that particular highway which is generally up to 20 kilometers per hour over the posted limit like most interstate type highways , he was in the passing lane following a large camper trailer, not really a conducive to speeding situation especially with daughter on the back and wife on another bike behind him and on a Harley a bike not really in keeping with the speedy sport attitude, obviously there is much the biker could have done to avoid the situation had he known a car was stopped in the passing lane in front of the camper ahead of him, whatever his actions him and his daughter paid the supreme price.
As an exercise next time you are following a large vehicle on a busy interstate follow at the point where you can safely see in front of that vehicle to assure yourself there isnt a stopped car in front of it, you'll be surprised at just how far back you will have to follow the large vehicle and that distance will constantly be getting occupied by other vehicles as people dont drive on busy highways leaving that much distance between them and the vehicle in front.
This is not a matter of opinion. The man was going ~20mph over the speed limit.
Other people managed to miss the car. His wife even said she was going slower so she was able to evade.
Sudden stops on the highway are nothing new (left lane notwithstanding). We must always be prepared. That is why you never tailgate, you always look ahead at the traffic in front of you, and you leave tons of room not only for yourself but for the car behind you (so you don't get rear-ended). Sudden stops on the highway are pretty run of the mill.

That would be 20 kilometers per hour over the speed limit or 12mph, and while the wife didnt impact the car she did go down in the ensuing wreck.
While its obvious the biker was traveling too close to the camper to deal with this emergency situation i dont believe his distance from the camper was abnormally close for normal driving conditions or that his speed was abnormally high for that type of highway
I will remind our American friends that this incident took place in Quebec, which is a part of Canada.
In Canada, and about 99 percent of the rest of the planet, measurements are in METRIC. That includes speed of vehicles. As Jambo pointed out, 20kph equals about twelve miles per hour, hardly what I would call "excessive speed " on a multi lane highway, where the speed limit is 100 kph, or about 60 mph.
In the crash scene photos, both motorcycles are lying on the roadway, about 3 metres apart. It is obvious to me that the Mother "laid her bike down " to avoid hitting the stopped car, on the left lane of the highway.
I hope that clarifies the facts re speed of the motorcycles.

Wow. Here in the good ole US - IF other cars had gone around AND the motorcycle was exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph . . . again, the driver of the motorcycle would not be without negligence.
For Stopped Cars you look for brake lights, She had her car in Park, So No brake lights would on. Since it was not "Night" yet, her tall lights would not be on yet either.
Coming up behind it would look like a car in motion, the brain will take a few seconds to register that it is not moving.
Imagine you are the biker,If you see some one walking down the highway where do you suppose your attention is going to be drawn?, if that camper suddenly changes lanes while you are distracted what do you think your chances are to avoid the stopped car in front of the camper?.
Youd have to be following the camper at this kind of distance to avoid the sudden appearance of a stopped car in the road in front of the camper.. http://images.canusa.de/img/regionen...9-0x0.800x.jpg
In this type of accident situation on this type of highway People just dont drive drive that way..

Nope. The article I read said he was going 120kph in a 90kph.
I did the math to make it mph so you guys would have some perspective on the speeding. So no...no good point.
OK he was going 15mph over the speed limit, he wasnt going any faster than the trailer in front of him, i doubt he was tailgating as none of the witnesses have testified that he was driving in an abnormal fashion, his only error was following at a normal distance behind the trailer and not following a half mile behind that trailer. And for that error in judgement he and his daughter are now dead thanks to some nutjob who thought it a good idea to stop in the middle of an expressway to tend the cute little ducks.
Obviously the biker has paid the supreme price for his actions, which leaves our duck woman, what do you think her penalty should be?
