"It wouldn't go far in a country that is hypervigilant with tremendous financial and medical resources, with excellent public hygiene."
Wishful thinking. In 1918 people were responsible and would comply with quarantines. Even the bums were polite in 1918. Today common sense and common courtesy are no longer common. We do not have enough "authorities" in our nation to enforce a quarantine. If a town or county wants to enforce a quarantine they are going to need a civil guard or militia in place 24 hours a day. Those folks will need the discipline to tell a father he can not go home to his family. When that man turns around he will likely park his pickup down the road, take his scoped rifle and go over the ridge to his family. Woe be to the "authority" who tries to stop him on his home ground. If a pair of civilians is seen guarding that father's route home, just as soon as the first "authority's" head disappears as a cloud of red mist the second "authority" will lose all enthusiasm for his assignment and depart his post forthwith.

This is not a flu-like infection. If it was, then yes - I'd be telecommuting.
This is more akin to Lassa fever, except Lassa fever has better chances of starting an epidemic - and yet, whenever a case of Lassa fever is found in the US, there is no epidemic.
Here's a tidbit to think about. the 3 countries that were infected (excluding Nigeria, since it just expanded there what this week?) have a combined population of 20 million. and less than .007% of the population was infected as of last week in nearly a years time all in 3rd world countries....but somehow people think the world will now end in the states because of this?
Any plague that does not have a vaccine is going to be volatile and dangerous. We are not being told the whole story most likely, in order to avoid panic. I find it odd that the two patients had to come here when the "secret serum" could have been used on them in complete isolation in Liberia. Why the enormous risk to transport them and bring them to a major city hospital?? (I for one, if a patient in that hospital, would discharge myself. I have read how MRSA spreads in hospitals, and that's nothing compared with ebola).
Hasn't anybody played the Plague Inc. game? To wipe a country out the disease should be airborne, with no symptoms. That's not ebola. Not even close.
Are you actually trying to compare the infection rates of incurable pathogens in real life to those that take place inside a video game? What's next? Are you going to try to convince us you would be a successful forensic investigator simply because you have watched every episode of CSI?

This plague isn't just volatile and dangerous, it is incurable and extremely lethal as well.
This disease is spread through bodily fluids, including mucous and saliva. To clarify, this means that if an infected person sneezes on you and you aren't wearing a medical grade mask, you could very easily become infected with an incurable disease with a 50 to 70% mortality rate.

They WERE GIVEN the "secret serum" IN AFRICA! they were then transported here. The facility they are in is one of the most strict and advanced BSL-4 facilities in the world. they aren't just rooming next door to a stroke patient or heart disease patient.
treating them here helps devise a plan to beat the infection, to see exactly how first hand how infection progresses.
