International Medical Corps is actually actively recruiting volunteers to fly out to West Africa and help
with the Ebola crisis....

https://careers.internationalmedical...Volunteer.html

Here is an example of a specific job request they have as well...
http://careers.internationalmedicalc...CoUXg3DA%3d%3d

I'm looking at this and thinking, what brave souls are those folks actually going out there to do this....
On the other hand, is it foolish/selfish, to take a chance to come back infected, like Dr. Craig Spencer of Manhattan last month?

At what point does that fine line between humanitarianism and just plain foolishness cross?

Believe it or not, this website has been swamped with applications to go out there.....they are looking for trained med personal and specialists, not just anybody. That being said, thousands are on the waiting list.

The woman above is actress/model Sienna Miller, who I believe is out there right now volunteering, or was recently. Not sure if she is still out there.....My God, what a saint she is, to risk an acting career and wealth to be on the front lines....
This is a pic of her out and about back home in London..

Back to the Ebola volunteers...

What do YOU think of the courage and/or foolishness of the people queing up to volunteer for this, right there, out there, in the front lines, taking a chance of losing everything to help?

I do think there is a foolishness aspect here. I can't even imagine doing it myself. However, just proves there are some hugely decent and brave souls out there today......

Regardless, Godspeed to them, AND the US Military, heading out there or there as we speak.....

I have not yet lost faith in humanity, seeing such sacrifice, put it that way...

It's nice to know some people are thinking about more than Ferguson. People complain here, let them try living in a place like Liberia where life is really hard. Maybe the few cases that have been seen here have made more folks think about what they have to deal with there. I don't think it's foolish to care and put yourself second to the cause you are fighting to help. Did you see the "Hope Song" video on you tube made by a group of Liberian singers. It was done to educate folks and give them hope. It's very good. I feel very sorry for people suffering with this and other problems we know little about firsthand in the states.

An aunt and uncle lived in Liberia for many years and both their kids are Liberian born. The strife and disease that hinders this country tears at them.

Best wishes to those that go to help humantity.

Well, what amazes me about this actress is that she is making no statements or grandstanding about going out to Liberia, while some media figures are making worse than grandstanding statements of ego per Ferguson, namely inflammatory statements that stir hatred(and line their pockets, one from NYC in particular, who I have not heard mention Liberia at all, let alone volunteered to go out there and help)...

We live on one earth, we are one human family, some with lighter skins, some with darker(never saw a black or white person, skin is neither, just lighter or darker).....underneath it all, the body and brain is exactly the same. We can donate organs like hearts to each other, regardless of race...they all work and are the same inside.....

Back to the "foolishness" of those that want to volunteer now to Liberia and such.....were the volunteers that worked with lepers fools way back when, or anyone that administered to those with communicatable illnesses? Think of it...someone back when did, and essentially served as front line shock troops, no different than the front line in war.....they ministered to the dying, healed the sick, stopped the epidemics, and often died as a result, or had lifelong probs because of the same..

Hate is always a more exciting "cause" to rally around. Ferguson is simply more sexy and exciting right now.

Love of one's fellow man, which this actress, and all those out there from other countries helping now are exhibiting, may not be as exciting as the riots and hate in Ferguson, but will have far more long-lasting impact, and that for the good, and for the entire human race...

I think it is great for people to volunteer to go there and help. I do think a quarantine is necessary for those returning... it just makes sense.

I would expect to return home in a big green bag. These volunteers are very brave folks.
