IMHO, I think that Ebola fighters is a good choice! They are definitely heroes and should be honored for that.

What was the biggest news story this year? Either Ukraine or the Malaysian plane that was never found.

Please don't pick Robin Williams.

The faceless itchy trigger fingered Policeman.

"Time's Person of the Year"--another relic from the past, and as irrelevant today as it was yesterday.

It's not supposed to be an "honor," though. It's about who or what was the most influential newsmaker over the past year.

For some perspective, Time once picked Hitler as its man of the year. They picked Stalin twice.

I would have gone with Putin, personally. The way he's flipped the bird at the West shows how the power dynamic is changing around the world. Russians love him for it, and it throws traditional American hegemony into a new light. It's a huge story, in global context.

I was having this discussion with a FB friend who was appalled that Time would consider Putin. When I explained that it's not about honoring someone, just proclaiming the biggest newsmaker of the year, she just kind of stammered and said, "Well, he still shouldn't be on the cover."

That reminded me right away of when Rolling Stone took so much flak for putting the Tsarnaev kid on their cover, as if it was somehow "honoring" him. Putting someone on your cover doesn't mean you like them. Why is this not clear to so many people? Journalists' job is to report news, for good or bad, not to hand out accolades.

I would say Malala Yousafzai. She seems to be our next Mother Teresa if she lives that long.
Ive seen her speak and she is practically a saint

Amazing young woman, and I greatly admire her strength and courage. However, I think her story peaked well before this year.

Again, Time's Person of the Year isn't about honoring someone. It's about identifying the biggest newsmaker of the year.
