Seems like a calculated attempt to get attention again, by conveniently bad mouthing elements of the military (the military always a target for those desiring notoriety and attention it seems).
The Palme d’Or-winning director of the highest-grossing documentary ever has made it very clear today he does not like the Clint Eastwood-helmed Oscar nominee nor its subject, Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.

My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse
No axe to grind re snipers but the Iraq war seems like a foolhardy choice of backdrop. The Mesopotamian misadventure was arguably the worst foreign policy blunder in American history. Lives lost, lives ruined, stupendous sums of money hemorrhaged, and the main beneficiary - the Islamists. If Eastwood was determined to tell an 'American' tale, he'd probably have been better looking elsewhere.
Some think sniping is a safe job. It is in fact a very dangerous job. They often operate behind enemy lines, all alone and quite vulnerable. This is a far cry from being a coward.
Bill Maher got in trouble for this after 9/11 for saying the enemies put their lives on the line while we shot cruise missiles from afar. Everyone hates an enemy sniper but wants a friendly providing overwatch.

That is so true. As much as I loathed the enemy snipers in Unreal Tournament, it was always quite gratifying when a few of my own were providing key cover for a flag run.
MM is an idiot and I cannot imagine why people listen to him. I remember when he was interviewed by Bob Costas of all people in an HBO show, and he claimed back in 2003 or so that Bush had Bin Laden stored away somewhere, just waiting to bring him out at the most politically opportune time. Costas thought he was joking and called him on it, but MM said he was dead serious, and he truly believed it.
Anyway, I went to see American Sniper, and it was a good movie. Then again everything certain directors like Eastwood do always turn out well. Martin Scorsese is another contemporary director I feel the same way about.
Anyway, if you were to ask the troops if they think Kyle was a hero or not, they would say he was in fact a hero to them, and helped to keep them alive.
I like how by his logic his uncle was worse than the guy who killed him which seems to be the opposite of what he intended to say.
