Sorry, but I was going to school at that time. Thats just an urban legend. It worked fine. No kids were getting hit by cars. It was a temporary measure due to the 1973 oil embargo. Once that was resolved Congress reverted back to regular Daylight Saving Time. It wasn't a fail. It was no longer needed for the original purpose.
Polls show that the majority of people like Daylight Savings Time and would support staying on it year round. A lot of people support ending Daylight Saving Time too, but not as many. So if it's going to happen it will have to be year round Daylight Saving Time.
