Sure they would. Have you been in this country very long? If that happened, the rat poison company would be pressured to make the containers more child proof and someone would release guidelines for proper storage of said chemicals.
Kind of why we have signs on pop machines now that say "Don't rock this!"...

Come on you salty old dog, if children used lighters to start fires or got into pill bottles nobody would be saying anything about making lighters and pill bottles child resistant.

It is illegal to allow minors unsupervised access to firearms. I believe that is true for every state.
Even though it is illegal, rarely are parents prosecuted if they have a child that was killed due to their negligence.
The courts feel that the parents have already paid the price.

The child had easy access to the gun, and should not have. Yes, the parents are at fault.

Which only proves that government can't legislate adult/parental responsibility, because these accidents continue to happen all too often. Laws making it illegal can't, and don't, prevent it from happening. They just provide penalties after the fact.

I don't agree with not punishing the parents for negligence just because it's their own kid. They should be prosecuted the same as if another person's kid was killed for their negligence. I am a compassionate person but sorry.. they don't get a pass on this. Keeping the same penalty will hopefully make the adult think twice before being negligence.

It would be covered under Child Endangerment laws, yes. Which indeed every state has a variation of. It would then be up to local prosecutors to pursue - some do, some don't (under perhaps the thought that the family has suffered enough). In my opinion it should be.

These events of accidental shooting get lots of publicity, but someone mentioned accidently ingesting rat poison - I would venture to guess accidental poisoning involving children is much more common then accidental shootings. They just don't get publicized and exploited for those with an agenda.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The Center For Disease control was tasked by Obama to do a gun study on gun violence. There are daily occurrences of defensive gun use that save lives.

"Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals," says the report, which was completed in June and ignored in the mainstream press.

Just when you think that the NRA has got us covered with guns in every home, every park, every classroom, every mall, and every church, we see a situation like this where they fail to get this kid armed first thing in the morning.

Sheesh.
Nonsense. Most people who own guns are not members of the NRA.

And that has been proven since kid get into pill bottles and quite often start fires.

Kids get poisoned on a daily basis, it rarely makes the news.
