Kinda an interesting story I ran across..

Activist: Good reasons why reaction riots haven’t happened here | Local News - WYFF Home

I think the two biggest things I agree with there are that we do, mostly, have a much higher level of respect to others in the south.. Doors get held.. The whole "Ma'am" and "Sir" thing..

The church leading the way in protests here.. Absolutely agree with that.. As much as I hate that Jesse Jackson jumps in (at times) to get his name out on everything.. It's very rare that a protest that he's directly involved in turns violent.

I will also agree with that story that the transparency of the Charleston police and their quick response in the Walter Scott death likely played a part. Basically got the video, released it, fired the officer, charged him with murder all within 2 days.

The last one is just geographic.. There aren't a whole lot of areas that are as compressed as areas up north.. Lack of population density.

Obviously, there have been riots in the south before.. And there likely will be again.. But it is interesting to think about how one area gets burned to the ground and another is, I believe, totally peaceful.. The Walter Scott protests.. I don't think there was any reported violence.

LOL. Missouri is definitely not in the South.

Baltimore isn't either.

They sure aren't "northern," either.

Still a bit more old school down south. You don't want officers to assist in your arrest in Texas.

Rioting is a northern thing?

Excluding lynchings, and anti-lynching riots, and included University of Mississippi (1962); Lexington, NC (1963); Tampa (1967); Orangeburg, SC (1968); Louisville, KT (1968); Miami (1980, 89,); Atlanta, GA (1992); St, Petersburg, FL (1996) and a few more I could dig up, no. It isn't a northern thing.

Now we have lynch mobs in other places; I don't see the point. common link is near large cities; really. But of course the high number arrested in ferguswon where from NY and California. Kind of strange but then may not really.

I lived outside Baltimore prior to coming to Colorado, and I attended church downtown every week. Baltimore is most assuredly NOT a northern city, and to suggest as much is absurd. Someone is sorely lacking in knowledge of American history.

Somebody doesn't know much about history. There were race riots all over the South in the 1960s. Both black and white..
