I had family that fought in the Civil war (both sides) & I'm more than a little offended at all the animus towards the flag they fought under. My relatives from the south were dirt-poor coal miners & lumberjacks that lived in shacks & the oppression they lived under wasn't much better than slavery - (a company store, Pinkerton thugs beating up & murdering those that opposed them, etc.)
Not sure how or why pissin' on their graves makes modern history-revisors feel better, but whatever.
The flag represents treason, legal rapes and lynchings, oppression and hatred. The flag was not revered by certain people in the South until the 60s as FY to the civil rights movement. It was flown on government property because the oppressed did not have the power to prevent it. That flag was displayed only due to tyranny of the majority.
You can't change history. The flag on top of the General Lee needs to stay. It's historical and part of The Dukes of Hazard legend and so is the "Dixie" horn.
I got a laugh a few months ago. I kept hearing "Dixie" on someone's horn every day. Looked around and it was the Taco Truck that drives around for the construction workers. Not sure the people on the truck or the construction workers understand the significance of the song.
I don't know where you have been living, but it's not on the planet Earth!
I was with him on his first paragraph, but couldn't finish the 2nd so meh. I do think it is a bit annoying how now all of a sudden this is all that's being jammed down my throat by social media etc. They're only showing the 2nd flag anyway, so can we switch them out for the 1st flag? Jeez. Silliness. Humans are funny things.
Not a southerner and have no interest in the flag. My only interest is how a piece of symbolic cloth now becomes the scapegoat for the shootings. IMO the conversation should be more about how we can remove the lunatic fringe from society or at least curtail their ability to get weapons.
All of the conversation about Charleston has become a flag fetish, which really won't do anything about the problem because it isn't the cause of the problem. In fact, I think it will make things worse as these "rebels" now have even more reasons to feel their country/lives are being changed and they will fight back harder.
But I guess the flag story gets ratings, which really is all the media cares about anyway.
All I'm hearing about is how we HAVE TO GET RID OF THE CONFEDERATE FLAG and all the statues, etc too. Where the hell did all this come from?
Here's a big hint.

And how come black on white crazy killings happen damn near every day in America and the news doesn't even bring up race when covering them,
Another big hint: perhaps because those killings are not accompanied by a manifesto written by the murder specifying that their actions were based upon race.
This is the type of stuff that happens when people become politically correct to the point of being mentally retarded.
