The homeowner was also shot, and his dog killed. I hate that their attitude towards dogs seems to be "kill first, ask questions later".

they love dogs, except when they're shooting them or leaving them locked in vehicles on hot summer days until they die.

Once again proving that the police are not your friend. Never, never, never, call them for any reason, unless you want them to show up and shoot something, or someone, maybe you, maybe your pet, maybe your child. Most of them were trained by the United States military. Here you are their enemy, just like the Iraqis were over there. Call them and you will experience what it is like to be on the wrong side of a gun, pointed at you by a US trained soldier.

what a tragedy. The news is reporting that someone in the area called about a suspicious person but did not provide a house number. The officers found a house fitting the discription and unfortunately, the back door was unlocked. The officer entered (likely hoping to catch/shoot someone before they did any harm to the homeowner). I assume at that point, the dog charged and was shot giving the homeowner time to shoot as well.
I can not imagine how everyone feels.

The friendly cop on the corner has been replaced by a red-light camera. "To Protect and Serve" has been replaced by "To Harass and Detain". Never speak to a police officer except in the case of an emergency. In every role other than that of emergency-responder, their one and only intent is to get you to incriminate yourself in some way.

The War on Drugs and the War on Terror have done us all much more harm than good.

One that is repeated over and over and over again by SWAT-team wannabes. There is more to fear from police gone overboard than from deranged lone wolf shooters.

Just today's posting for the Dogs Shot by Police Facebook page.

An honorable mention to the Jamestown, ND Police Department who also killed a victim's dog. And yesterday the police departments in East Peoria, IL and Buffalo, NY increased their dog kill lists. The day before it was the Beltsville, MD Police Department. Before that... well you can read it for your self. The police are on a streak here. They are killing more dogs then they are unarmed black people.

Interesting how this one will play out...

Cop and homeowner shot each other. Dog killed. Police enter wrong house. Homeowner (assuming here) probably thought it was a break-in and in the dark just saw a man in the dark open fire on his dog. Who gets charged here?
