Lets just hope this does not become headline of the decade. It is now on us to deploy fast response planes (more tanks?) to Turkey in order to maintain a NATO members security. Thats bad.
Are there any indications this is a common flight path when Russian planes deploy to Syria? If so there is certainly a possibility this was specifically done to send a message.
I wonder if Turkey was more likely to pull something like this BECAUSE of its inclusion in NATO. "Starting" fights because it's got bigger brothers to finish them for it.
Major powers shooting at each other is pretty much never something to cheer for particularly when we have a defensive commitment to one of them.
It's much better than not shooting down the plane, which would lead to further Russian aggression and more lost lives.

What are you talking about? Turkey is a sworn enemy of ISIS. Russia has been aiding ISIS by protecting Assad, who is defacto allied with ISIS. Russia has been eliminating ISIS' enemies.

The only ISIS enemy than can win is Assad. Contributing to the power vacuum by attacking both ISIS and Assad only succeeds in strengthening ISIS. Attacking all rebels removes the power vacuum and makes it more difficult for ISIS to operate. Support for rebels is support for ISIS.
