I do not know if I should laugh or cry. While the statements are funny, the fact those people belive what they are saying makes me want to cry.
(Newser) – The town of Woodland, North Carolina, is taking a drubbing online after its town council not only shot down a proposed solar farm but put a moratorium on future similar projects. It wasn't the mere rejection, however, that's drawing ridicule but some of the comments made by local residents during the comment period as rounded up by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald. The big one: A man voiced concern that "solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not come to Woodland," in the words of the newspaper. "You’re killing your town," he told planning officials. "All the young people are going to move out." A retired science teacher also worried that solar farms would interfere with photosynthesis and result in dead plants around town, and might even cause cancer.
Apparently they already have three farms (plus substation) and this one would have made the town ringed in (totally circled). It appears to me it was rejected because the panels aren't lowering their electric bills. And, there were understandable concerns about property values. Some of the townspeople's objections are extremely laughable, but you are always going to have a few nut cases. Follow the money, it's usually about the money, they weren't seeing a profit.

I doubt if any trees will need to be cut down. However as this is using a renewable resource, the overall effect will be a net conservation of natural resources. although it may not result in any cost reduction for the electric users.
it’s sad that some people are unable to deal with technology, they’ve been given so much propaganda against green renewable energy that this is what you have left in town.
People like this are why stereotypes about certain places exist. Unbelievably stupid.
True, sadly it does soil the reputation and insults the intelligence of all the people in the town. But a fact of life is idiotic statements and violence attract media attention.

Of course not. But this is a prime example of why certain stereotypes exist. They're not helping themselves, that's for sure.
If they don't want the solar panels because they don't care about the environmental pluses to having them, just say that. No need to say such uneducated crap. Unless they really are that misinformed, in which case maybe someone should take the time to educate them on the purpose, positives, and misconceptions of solar panels so they can then make an informed decision, rather than bring it to the media and try to make them look like total idiots (successfully).
There’s a lot of propaganda being pushed by the coal industry trying to keep a dying industry alive. Unfortunately too many people believe “everything” they read or hear and fail to check the source of the information. Propaganda is amazing and can cause more harm than good. To hell with clean energy lets burn more coal for electricity.
