I used to work in the shipbuilding industry at Todd Pacific Shipyards in San Pedro Calif. as a Shipwright.
I worked with some people who came from Belfast to escape the I.R.A. violence and the skills that they had were extremely impressive.
Terminal Island had a lot of shipyards also that were first established during the two World Wars and there used to be so much work that they couldn't hire enough people to get the work done.
Bethlehem Shipyard is now the site of a movie studio across from Seaport Village in San Pedro.
Times sure have changed.
