Honestly, if the meter maid can comfortably leave her vehicle there for 20+ minutes (unpaid), without any adverse impact on traffic/parking, why is it metered at all?
So there should be an escalating fine for the amount of time your meter is expired? Can you imagine the heads exploding with the huge fines. As far as the meter maid parking, she is in and out in minutes. What is she supposed to do to monitor an area? The spots in my area are metered because the spaces are limited and some people would park in an area that is heavily trafficked and just leave the car there for hours.

Yes, I think that would be more fair. Should someone 5 minutes expired pay the same as someone who leaves their car unpaid all day? And there's no reason you couldn't put a maximum on the fine.

She was parked for ~10 minutes. If the area is so congested, the meter maid should be working on foot. Isn't her vehicle just contributing to the supposed problem? Again, I understand some areas need to be controlled, but it seems like a lot of these municipalities are metering spaces not because it's necessary, but simply because they can.

How do you know this? Maybe I missed it but I sure didn't see the video showing her parking the car.

Says who?

Jail is supposed to be for people who committed crimes. People who steal cars, trade child pornography, defraud the elderly of their life savings, burglarize homes, shoplift, steal peoples' identities, etc. all can be jailed for non-violent crimes.

There's a time stamp on the video. I offer ~10 minutes as the most conservative estimate. It may have been longer(and likely was), which would only bolster my point.
