A couple of years ago my son worked at a grocery store. His check was around $200 dollars. He donated his whole check to WWP. I was so proud of him. I gave him back $200 just for doing that. I find this story very disturbing.
My guess we will see many more. A couple of organizations are sending out $1.00 bills and asking it be returned, with a donation. One month I received 10 $1.00 bills and I kindly returned each one with a small donation and asked to be removed from the list, with an explanation why. If they are going to send my hard earned money around in the mail to who knows who, hoping for a donation, I assume they don't need the money.
Plus, how can we know what each group is doing, when this stuff happens all the time. There's other ways to donate. I find keeping it in my community helps me to see where it is going, after all, most of the return labels are to DC.
I volunteer with the Wounded Warrior Vets as a sports coach. Really bummed out about this (maybe pissed is a better word), as I know Vets there who are struggling to get the services they need. I also collect donations for them, which may not be being put to the best use.
I heard stories about excessive salaries and spending at WWP a couple years ago, and stopped donating then. Wonder why this is just now being a headline story.
