Knowing the govt. they are floating this story to "catch the 80 year old bad guy!"

I would give the guy a pass just so he could come forward and tell the story!

I suspect he got away with it, just not sure why the money never resurfaced/got spent (as they had the serial numbers).

With no experience I jumped from 5500 ft and had a blast. With the adrenaline rush, 200K in the backpack I suspect an extra 4500 ft wouldn't be problem for someone with experience.

I agree. If I remember correctly he was over a wooded area? Not a good place for a safe landing.

IIRC some of the money was found washed ashore on the banks of a river or creek in Oregon...

And there was some interview with one of his relative where he said D.B. Cooper came to visit him or something after the
hijacking and was buried somewhere in Oregon, not sure if thats credible or not...

Aw, man, far out! I can finally start spending some of this money...

Seriously, the man is long dead. Not one of those bills ever found its way into circulation. There's no way someone steals 200K and lives almost a half century without spending a dime of it. He didn't survive the jump, and at this point his body will never be found.

Like some of you, I watched the History Channel "special" over the weekend. That's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back. I'm with Albert - he didn't survive the jump.

Yeah, but you probably didn't jump in the middle of the night, in a driving rainstorm, at 200+ MPH, in wintertime, over steep, rugged, heavily forested mountains, wearing a pair of loafers. And if he was an experienced jumper, he sure didn't have much experience - one of the chutes he took was an inoperative, dummy chute, which an experienced skydiver would have noticed immediately upon checking his gear.

Dude's dead. A bold and audacious plan, but he evidently didn't think it through thoroughly enough.

Thank you.. Covered all the points I was going to make save one..

They didn't jump out of a commercial airliner not designed for skydiving.

But yeah.. He's dead. Died on impact most likely. will never be found because his body was buried by volcanic ash after Mt St Helens erupted.
