Things in literature must be really bad if they had to award it to him

He is a great songwriter. I was so surprised to see this, though. I don't know if I've ever seen the Nobel awarded for someone's lyrics before.

Bob Dylan Awarded Nobel Prize in Literature - The New York Times

On May 3, 2006, satellite radio listeners tuned in to the sultry growl of a living legend who took them on a thematic journey through musical history. Theme Time Radio Hour, hosted by Bob Dylan, included both the most well-known and ultra-rare musical testimonies to the assorted concepts to form a thematic narrative through our collective consciousness. Covering topics from smoking to presidents, Bob served as curator, educator, philosopher and comedian in our journey through his vast collection of recordings, including some secret gems that had been all-but-lost to us.

I don't know why people object to awards based on subjective criteria.

Maybe they don't understand what 'subjective' means?

Maybe they're narcissists who confuse their subjective tastes for objective truths?

They could award it to Dee Snider for all I care...

I can't help but think that they are getting desperate. If they are looking for serious influential lyrics then I would have preferred Leonard Cohen over Dylan.

Surely there is more literature that is more significant than the stuff like Rainy Day Women from BD.

And I'm of his generation. I'm noticing a continuous cheapening of the the prize.---like giving the Peace Prize to Obama for just winning the election back in 2008. While I am a fan of Obama and voted for him twice, he has done nothing in the last 8 years that qualified him for the world Peace Prize.

Congrats to Lucky Wilbury

way too long overdue

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form
Come in, she said
I'll give ya shelter from the storm...

...Well, I'm livin' in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
Come in, she said
I'll give ya shelter from the storm
