Casinos are a one way street. Why people keep playing is beyond me.
I own my own slot machine, and I can't even win on it!
I have a buddy who just won a quarter million on a slot machine. He's gotten some other big payouts playing cards. But he plays casinos ALL THE TIME. It's his only hobby.
Yup, the casino is "responsible"- to the extent that it needed to fix the machine.
Your implication of her being a "victim" in this because of her race is not even worth commenting on.
Casinos cheat people? That's news to me.
Seriously.
Have you ever been to a casino before? Some slots machine have "running jackpots" that keep on going and at the same time they have flat rate "winnings" where if you match a certain item, you get said winning. But if you somehow manage to hit the "jackpot". you get the jackpot.
She should have taken a better photo of the entire machine.

Yup, I've been to casinos where they have "progressive jackpots". It doesn't sound like this was one of those sorts of machines.
The machine said she won $43 million even though the max payout is $6,500. How is that not a machine malfunction?
It does but to low ball her and offer her $2.25 her initial pay in is a slap in the face. She should get nothing less than $10K AFTER taxes and lawyer fees. Casinos are disgusting and this is why I never go honestly.
Yes, as well as deception. The machine was off, offer her the payout and then some for gas as well a pain and suffering.
I'd love to see a jury that would award her "pain and suffering" for having a slot machine malfunction. Actually, on second thought, I'd be terrified to see 12 people that would agree that having a slot machine malfunction rises to the level of emotional distress.
And, what "deception"? The machine malfunctioned. The purpose of these sorts of cases is to compensate the plaintiff- to make her "whole". The foundation of that is that the plaintiff has to show actual harm. That her hopes of opening up a barber shop were dashed really doesn't rise to the level of recoverable harm. Or, at least, I sincerely hope not.
Is a machine even able to be deceitful? It was a malfunction. Do you sue the makers of your cell phone for "pain and suffering" when it drops a call?
No because that is a common mistake. A slot machine with a $6.5K pay out having a glitch showing the person won oh 6.33m isn't exactly common. Not uncommon but nowhere near how often you see cell phones drop calls. But you better know if there is a pattern with dropped calls, I let my provider know.
Posting an amount higher than authorized by the machine, for starters.
Look, while I can sympathize with this woman, she ultimately isn't owed anything and should be happy that she was even offered a steak dinner. Her "jackpot" was higher than the amount possible to be won on that particular machine (hence, the "malfunction" . . . and she had notice on the machine that you don't win prize money in a malfunction). End of story in my book.
