Joe McKnight, a former NFL running back for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, was shot to death during an apparent road road incident Thursday afternoon in Terrytown, La. near New Orleans, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand told ESPN. He was 28.

According to The Times-Picayune, family members at the scene identified McKnight, who was a high school football standout at nearby John Curtis Christian School, before going on to star for the USC Trojans.
Quote:
McKnight was shot multiple times during an argument at an intersection, a witness told the Times-Picayune. The witness said she saw a man yelling at another man, who was trying to apologize.

She added that the shooter shot the man, stood over him and said “I told you don’t you f— with me.” Then he fired again, she told The Times-Picayune.

What a tragedy, rip.

Road rage is so dangerous. You just never know what the other person is capable of.

Sad but I doubt Joe was completely innocent in this case. Yes it said he was apologizing but I'd apologize too if I had a gun pointed at me.

I wonder what could possibly make you think he wasn't completely innocent here.

I was just commenting on the fact that the second quote you posted made him sound like he was innocent.

Joe McKnight’s Murderer Released From Custody, No Charges Filed

Joe McKnight was one of my favorite college athletes to watch and a great young man. This story made me sick to my stomach and now he's walking free, even for the time being? The guy who killed Will Smith in a similar area and similar situation is in jail, I believe. Take a guess what the difference is.

I'm not even going to respond to people (and I use that word very loosely) who even have a thought that getting into a verbal altercation with another driver should lead to being shot.

Fact is you don't talk **** in NOLA.

Many of you may not understand, but Joe should have known better.
You walk on by.
You ignore and they will typically just move on to the next person and **** with them.

But what you DON'T do is act like Mr. tough guy and mouth off back to them. Unless you are perfectly willing to be the one doing the killing. If not. SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

this is why I tell all my friends and family never ever argue with someone when involved in an auto accident or fender bender . My oldest daughter got out of her car one time and an older lady said to my daughter " well I guess you know this is your fault right ? My daughter said nothing to her and got back in the car . I was proud of my daughter for doing the right thing . This older woman might think more the next time before confronting someone because with the attitude she had someone might become angry with her and you just never know anymore about accidents leading to more ... Yes this is so sad and I'm sorry someone lost their loved one and their life over a stupid minor thing .

Gasser, 54, has not been formally charged, said JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato. Investigators are consulting with the district attorney's office on the decision whether to formally charge Gasser, Fortunato said.
So if they file NO charges, does this mean this guy is claiming he acted in self defense? I don't see any other way no charges could be filed.
