I'm glad he didn't get fired, but the protestors have a right to non-violent free speech, which, as guaranteed by US Sup. Ct. decision, includes flag-burning. Free speech, and protecting free speech, even if you disagree with the method, is quintessentially American.
Pretty sure they are not just allowed to start a fire on a public sidewalk.
It should be American. If you don't like this country you should leave. Why stay?
Who said they don't like the country? American citizens have the right to protest and make their grievances known in order to make their country better as they see it. Believing that there's only one way to express citizenship goes against what this country was founded on and isn't very American.
Even as I really don't have the same visceral reaction as others to our flag burning; the principles it represents- most importantly, free speech- are far more potent than the physical symbol that it is. I'm all for some back and forth free speech with folks protecting it.
I totally honor the FedEx employee's actions and am glad the company feels the same.
I agree 100% with the bolded and believe that he had every right to voice his opinions on the protesters actions but IMO his behavior crossed the line when it included taking a flag that wasn't his and inciting violence:
"During that altercation, Uhrin got into a physical altercation with a couple of the protesters. He sprayed one with the first extinguisher and pushed one person off of h
Matt Uhrin, rushed out with a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze. Uhrin took one of the flags from protesters, scuffling with a number of protesters in the process."
Fed Ex can do what they want, he's their employee, but I don't believe a man who behaved in such a manner deserves blind congratulations.
Their choice whether or not to fire him.
His "if you don't like it get...out" comment isn't that American.
Totally agree
