HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) - A retired Miami-Dade firefighter took extreme measures to get AT&T workers to remove their trucks from his property, Wednesday morning.
According to Hialeah Police, the AT&T utility employees Derrick Taylor and Gilberto Ramos were working on lines near a home located near the corner of Southeast Fifth Place and Sixth Avenue when 64-year-old Jorge Jove, came outside and approached them, at around 11 a.m.
“The owner of the house came out,” said Hialeah Police Sgt. Carl Zogby. “He was upset that the trucks were parked in front of his house, asked them to move.”
Police said Ramos and Taylor told Jove they would remove the vehicle as soon as they were finished with repairs, but that did not appear to satisfy him. “They said, ‘We’ll move in a few minutes. We’re just working on the poles. We’re supposed to be here,'” said Zogby. “He went back into his house, came out a few moments later with a gun and started firing at both AT&T trucks that were on the scene.”
Seems a little counter-productive. I mean, it's going to take a while to move them now...
Plus, he will be charged with something...
He was charged with multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon and posted bail. The AT&T guys were a little freaked out by his being released and said they had hoped he would have a mental health evaluation before he was released.
It’s a good thing the AT&T workers didn’t carry a gun and fire back in fear for their own lives….. This kind of recklessness on the part of the homeowner could have gotten someone killed.
Wow. Scary! He did more than just flatten the tires. He pointed the gun at workers and also fired into the cab of the AT&T truck. He did it calmly and without emotion, which makes it even more scary.
The guy is mentally unbalanced. His guns, all of them, need to be confiscated. He needs evaluation and professional counseling. I hope he receives it rather than jail time. If any neighbors were armed, including the AT&T workers, they showed great restraint. This guy is probably lucky to be alive after doing what he did.
