I consider snakes to be kind of like fish, except you can take 'em out and handle them. I like snakes a lot, but prefer the ones that remain fairly easy to deal with, like ball pythons. The venomous ones, and the ones that get humongous and difficult for a person to handle...I question the reasonableness of keeping as pets. I find snakes to be more decorative than not (like fish) but still somewhat interactive. Why do people keep fish? Because they want to.
All she had to do was pour any kind of alcohol on its face, and it would have let go and tried to escape. Rubbing alcohol works, as does strong spirits like Vodka or something. A reptile expert told me that. Apparently works a treat whether a snake has you in its constricting coils, or latched on with teeth. They really do NOT like having alcohol to the face. Can't say I blame 'em. I once spoke to a young woman who was entering the enclosure of a large constrictor at the zoo, to clean it, with the snake still inside. She came out and I asked what she'd do if it got a hold of her. She said yell for help. Wrong answer, lady. I filled her in on this trick. If I had a large constrictor around as a pet, you bet I would keep a bottle of alcohol handy, just in case.
I do not believe that a snake is intelligent enough to be TRULY domesticated, I roll my eyes when someone says their snake is so sweet it would never bite anyone. Dude, it's a snake. Get real. But they can still be interesting pets if kept responsibly.
Reptiles are different sort of pets. I had a turtle named Richard when I was little, and we had an iguana named Sir William. Not great pets. I still love frogs, though. Frogs are funny.
I had a small snake in my house about a year ago. Probably harmless, but me being on medication, including blood thinner, I decided not to fool with it. I called 9-1-1. They wouldn't budge. Said I had to call a pest control company.
I got my sharp shooter shovel and off with his head. Hated to kill it, but he moved into the wrong kitchen.

Out in "the wild" I fully advocate letting animals live except under the most dire circumstances. But in and immediately around my house...nope...that's no longer their territory. Off with their heads!

Yup. If they ain't paying rent, they don't get to live there.
We've had a bumper crop of bull snakes coming 'round this year, guess I should be glad they're not boa constrictors.
I don't find snakes to be pet-material, but to each his own.
