LOL! Does that really make a difference considering the dangers involved?!

Yes, one is a company and the other is buying from private sellers.

A company that was permitting third-party sellers to market some very questionable products, unfortunately.

That's what happened to me too. I went to NASA's website I clicked on a link to one of the companies that was reputable and they sell on Amazon. I got my glasses already even tested them by putting them on and looking at the sun. Those things are pretty dark! I'm not blind so I guess they work. Although I had no doubt they were the real thing.

I saw the total solar eclipse on March 7, 1970. I was 8 years old and lucky enough to have a dad who was totally into this whole event. Plus it was on a Saturday. My dad made some sort of thing with a box and we looked through a little pinhole. My brother was 5 and we were both so excited we could hardly stand it - besides spending the day with my dad at Virginia Beach (along with tons of other people who were also all excitedly watching for the eclipse, lots of family groups), we were totally psyched about that eclipse. I remember it clearly to this day.

I ordered the protective glasses this time (from Amazon but it was from a link from the NASA site) and I'm excited this time too, even though we will see a slight crescent instead of a total eclipse. I wish my dad was still alive so I could spend the afternoon with him. He was a pilot and he always loved stuff like this. We spent many a night together over the years watching meteor showers or looking for falling stars. He'd often text me early in the morning if there was a spectacular sunrise, or he'd call all excited if the clouds were doing something that he thought was fabulous. I miss him.

This one's for you, Dad. I bet the view is perfect from where you are.

People can always call their Optometrist. Some offices are giving them away free to their patients, others are asking for a small ($3) donation to charity. I was in school the last time we had a total eclipse. We did the pinhole in the box thing.

We got our glasses yesterday. Tried them out and they seem to work. They're ISO certified, so they should be good.
