^^^ Same wavelength here, wouldn't be surprised a bit if those who "volunteer" do so to further their careers there.

For myself, just uncomfortable with the idea altogether. Seems like a big brother, foot in the door. Or something.

You cant be tracked because there is no GPS in it. It also has a range of 6 inches so it isnt like the company can scan for it. Lastly it is voluntary. When you leave they take it out. One article says it is akin to removing a splinter. The company that is using it has a vested interest because they manufacture the very machines that would read it.

I wouldnt be against it necessarily provided it doesnt in fact have GPS. Once you are off of the property there is nothing that is going to read the thing anyway

Of course now there is the issue of industrial spies just waylaying you and taking the chip for their own use and gratification. Somehow I would be a lot less worried about having my ID card stolen than one of these chips. There is no picture that goes along with the chip so --- once you get your hands on one, MUCH easier to abuse than a picture ID with swipe strip on it.

All the way 'round, just a terrible idea.

Maybe get it done at the age where they are in preschool and then take it out after college. Kids do end up missing while in college. Although my deceased father would ay 'no just leave it in till they get married. haha

Refusing the chip is hateful?!

Bob, your chip is showing us that you spend too much time at the vending machine and buying snacks with too much sugar. The chip also is revealing to management that you leave your office too many times during the week and spending too much time with Mary in accounting.

It could be completely and utterly benign, and done with the best of intentions, and I would still never have one. (The fact that I wonder how truly "voluntary" it might be is a whole other issue, as is the fact that the company using it is going to profit from those "volunteers.")

My body is mine. When I work for you, you buy some of my time. You do not buy the right to tattoo your company logo on my forehead, brand it on my butt, or inject even the tiniest electronic "splinter" under my skin. Not now, not ever.

While I agree with the overall sentiments of everyone here, you may wish to put a bit more thought into the concepts of privacy, tracking, and scanning.

How many of you here have a smart phone? That does have GPS, and even if you disable it, it can be remotely turned on. It's never really off. It also has a camera (usually two) and a microphone. Yet many people I know can't be without their phones. Bring them into their bedrooms at night. Have sex or intimate conversations with the stupid phone right next to them. These things can be and are used to track people, for advertising if nothing else.

Do you have one of those Amazon Echo things? ("Alexa, reorder coffee! "). Those things record and transmit everything said in your household. Law Enforcement now coniders them evidence. Have a TV that responds to voice commands? Same deal. You even have to be careful what your CAR is recording! Have car wifi? Yikes!

Those little chips implanted in your hand are quite tame in comparison to your electronics. I just scratch my head... people who are horrified at the idea of a chip, will gladly traipse around all over tarnation with a smart phone, being tracked, listened to, photographed -- and consider themselves to be free of being "tracked"! You go figure!

I'm sure you have tracking on your cell phone turned off and don't let FaceBook, Google, Apple, or any other website put cookies on your computer.

What are the last four digits of your SS card? Do you refuse giving that out for medical services?

Just surprised that no one made the animal microchip comment yet.
