Traditions are not for us to judge (imho).
Well that tradition is stupid and sickening. There was a time when marrying a "child" was acceptable everywhere, back when there were less "women" to choose from. Isn't India one of the most over-populated countries in the world now? Stupid traditions and age old laws is what is keeping these third world countries from advancing.

Once a girl starts menstruating and, thus, ovulating, physically she is capable of becoming a mother. Some girls get their menarche (first period) that early. I got mine when I was 11 and a half.

When was that? Wasnt polygamy practice in many civilizations 'back when"? That doesn't sound like a lack of women.
