This Teacher really had some nerve.

Blaming the library for having the materials as if that abolishes him/her of responsibility is very childish.

Time for the teacher to be the grown up and act accordingly
The librarian should have looked through those before they were made available to students. That's his/her job.

Ultimate decision is made by the school administrator. When I was a school librarian, we had a complaint that a book showed how to make a bomb. It was some book on how things work--like how a car works, how a toilet works...and sure enough, there was a little blurb on how an explosive works.

The decision was to keep the book because a kid could look the same thing up on the internet. It was nothing new and there was so much good information in the book that we couldn't justify throwing the book away.

But I had some input and the school principal made the ultimate decision to keep the book. BTW, no one made a bomb. Maybe if a teacher had used that book as a lesson on how to make a bomb, the parent's complaint would have had some merit. Still, I think that around 7th or 8th grade we learned similar things in science class--some kid could have figured it out. It's called education. So the art class was in Utah--that seems to be the problem right there. Secondary issue is that the teacher should have taken the naked pictures out because the kids were a little bit young for that and would have gotten silly over it. Not a big deal though.

I'll stick with Modigliani and Boucher - not that Boucher is all that good.

I'm a little concerned with a 5th grade boy who becomes upset seeing female nipples. It sounds like there is some disagreement with what actually was said, about being mature in viewing art.

What seems to be missed here is the parent who made the complaint said the issue was not so much the nude art, it was the teacher's response to it. At the center appears to be the following line:

‘There’s nothing wrong with female nipples. You guys need to grow up and be mature about this.’”

The teacher denies ever saying this but it's the reason the parent filed the complaint. I'm still trying to figure out why those 2 sentences are a fire-able offense
