Isn't this a case of false represntation and against the law in most countries.

The police and authorities should be involved.

OMG...the couple was just interviewed on Megyn Kelly. They are lying through their teeth; their body language, eye contact, conflicting accounts and hesitant, vague words... It's clear that they simply saw all that money and had a change of heart.

Or they genuinely realized that giving $400k of free money to a homeless addict is a terrible idea. The more they got to know him, they probably saw how much deeper his issues ran. They cannot magically cure his addiction and other issues that made him homeless in the first place with this money; it would take serious work and dedication on his part. It's easy for him to say he'll comply with treatment, get a job, etc. when he's faced with over a quarter of a million dollars but when he tries to get clean or get a stable job and hold it down, he may struggle. He admitted he has given some of the money away to friends and family and that he spent some on drugs. If he keeps going like this, he won't improve his life with that money, not for the long run. He seemingly isn't learning anything. He may be as greedy as people claim the couple is. If he doesn't honestly plan to take that money and use it to get clean, to improve his life, he isn't doing anything for the right reasons either. Not for the promised purpose.

I honestly believe they started this with good intentions. Just my personal opinion. I think they were idealistic but realized they can't solve all his problems to get him over the ultimate hurdles he needs to cross to stay successful in life without some serious work and effort. They're in over their heads with him and this situation. Again, I'd be interested to see what the rules of GFM are or what type of terms they agreed to.

They either shouldn't have made certain promises that it turns out it would be a bad idea to keep, or they shouldn't have ever started a GFM for him. Certain promises like getting him a house - how would that work? How would he afford taxes, any mortgage, the bills? He needs to be clean, relatively mentally well, and have a stable job before he even should think about a house imo.

Perhaps there is some greed involved. Maybe they now think, "yeah this was supposed to be for him, but he'll mismanage it or blow it and we're better off keeping it" or "we're better off controlling it until we feel he is ready for it" (which is less about greed and more about ensuring the money goes to its intended purpose, assuming they haven't spent it; however they should have appointed a third party to control the money for him imo). It's a bad attitude and there are other options than them spending some of it (assuming they definitely have), but I can see where that attitude comes from. Because they know that this money probably won't automatically help this guy in the end and solve all his problems like they apparently thought it could.

The boyfriend threw ice water in this hot take when he admitted that he used money from the GoFundMe account to fund a trip to the casino. By commingling charity money and personal funds, he showed that he has extremely poor judgment at best and is a liar at worst, and he lost the benefit of any presumption that he has the moral high ground here.

I had to carefully read this story to fully digest what the heck was going going. My takeaway:

1. This couple was NOT and is not qualified to handle or manage $400,000 in charitable donations. You give anyone, not qualified, that type of money and you might as well kiss some of it goodbye
2. Throwing money to a homeless man addicted to drugs is exactly what’s wrong with GoFundMe. The homeless person needs rehab, a job, education, training, and a plan not just some big bucket of cash of which he will blow in 3 months
3. What this couple did was messed up. Vacations, BMWs, time off work, casinos, putting the money in persons accounts, etc this was not their money to spend. The donations were not for them. They need to be locked up.
4. GoFundMe proves once again what a distaster it is with no protocols/security in place to prevent this type of fraud. We all knew this crap happens and this is just another sad story.

In society we always think throwing money at the problem solves things, until it doesn’t. GoFundMe will figure out the hard way that many of these people are not qualified to manage donations and that it take more than money to solve or fix problems.

Looks like Johnny Bobbitt is suing the couple now:

Homeless again, Philly's Johnny Bobbitt takes legal action against couple who started $400K fundraising campaign

Documents filed in Superior Court in Mount Holly with the lawsuit seeking an injunction and monetary relief contend the couple committed fraud and conspiracy by taking for their personal use a “substantial portions of the money raised,” instead of putting the funds toward getting Bobbitt off the streets, as the GoFundMe page stated. The request for an injunction also alleges that D'Amico and McClure deposited the money into personal accounts, and denied Bobbitt access to the donations.

The filing also seeks compensatory damages and interest and counsel fees, and that a “guardian ad litem” be appointed for Bobbitt. Such a person investigates what would be in the best interests for a minor child or an incapacitated adult who cannot represent his or her own interests.

I used to live by Mount Holly. I guess he'd have to file there since they live in Burlington County. Good for him! I'm sure he's going to win. I hope they can account for all that money

Ugh.
Something similar happened with people I know.
Kid dies in a car wreck, this couple are already skells milking the system. Just lazy and useless.
Anyway, tragically the kid gets killed in a car wreck, decent kid, bright future, very popular.
So these ding dongs don't have a pot to **** in, a friend of the family sets up a go fund me or similar account thing to give this kid a decent and proper service and burial.
The money comes pouring in by the buckets. Kid gets cremated and a one night memorial service.
Next thing you know the couple has a new truck, TV sets and all kinds of other things.
They totally cheaped out on the kid and kept the remainder for themselves and pissed it to the four winds.
