I also think (hypothetically) if a woman had dined and then walked out, the restaurant would have forced her date to pay or called the cops on him. They wouldn't have called the police on the woman who walked out on her check.
They may not have, but these restaurants didn't either (I don't think). The women themselves didn't even approach the police. The police approached one of the women, seeing her post on Facebook about this, because they (the police) had already been trying to catch this guy for thefts including the one at the salon.

But the police were trying to catch him because someone made a police report and complained. It was likely one of the restaurants that reported it.

The police were trying to catch him because he had a couple of outstanding warrants for other matters. He'd failed to show up for a prior court hearing, which is likely why his bail was set fairly high.

No that's not correct. One of the women posted about it on social media, other women started recognizing him as the same guy who did it to them, and it was going to more and more people...then the police caught wind of it, and a detective or officer who was already looking for him because of his "snip and ditch" habit at hair salons, contacted the women.

I do find it ironic though that on shoplifting threads people generally want the book thrown at people, yet see this as more "okay" kind of theft.

He will most certainly "get time" if he can't make the $315,000 bail. And a 40-something who lives with mom isn't likely going to be able to come up with $315,000. These charges are egregiously excessive, as is the bail amount. The judge who ordered this bail and the prosecutor who over-charged this petty theft are the ones who belong in jail.

That's what happens when you have a history of failing to appear in court and racking up bench warrants. Judges don't look kindly on those activities, which is why the bail was set so high.

The judge will then schedule a trial after the preliminary hearing. To be noted, he's facing 10 felonies.

He's being charged with 10 counts of felony extortion and he's 45 years old. Who knows that the judge will sentence him to after a conviction? This wasn't some young man in his 20's living life. This was a middle aged man who should be able to afford his own dinner, some of the stories said he claimed he was a bodybuilder to justify ordering 2 entrees.

This is a win win for him. He can get out of his mommies house and STILL get free food. He will also be able to work out and be the bodybuilder he always dreamed of being. He should be celebrating his newfound fame in the "GreyBar Hotel"
