Unbelievable, I understand the policy, CVS is rich enough to swallow the robbery but I don't agree with them firing the clerk and pharmacist because their instinct came through! How many homicides are committed even though the robber got what they came for?
Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't nowadays. Is this snowflake policy or mearly trying to protect people?

When I was hired to work as a bank teller back in 2000 that was the policy there, too. Don't try to be a hero, give them exactly what they are asking for (including the bait money if you can), and as soon as you can do it safely hit the silent alarm which will alert the local police department. We were warned during our 1st day of teller training that we would be fired if we physically tried to stop what was going down.
There have been several threads like this in recent months. Other than gun stores and a few of their intellectual kin, the universal rule in corporate retail America is "your life and our liability is worth one helluva lot more than the $500 in the register." You have to be pretty drunk on Stand Yer Ground to think otherwise.
"Then, he put his hands on my pharmacist and I was right there when it happened," Phillips said. "I didn't know what was going to happen from that point. But, I wasn't going to let him hurt my pharmacist."
Stupid. They tackled the guy as he was fleeing. That wasn't an action of defense.

"They don't value anybody; they don't value employees; they don't value customers. They value money."
Wrong. The policy exists because they value the lives of their employees and customers more than money.
When I was 16, I ran after some shoplifters at the local grocery store I was working at and got their plate number. Thought I was being a hero, but got the usual speech.
Today...I completely understand it. The $30 worth of crap they stole is not worth the risk I took. I'll make sure my kids understand this as well as they enter the working world

One would like to think so but i think the policy exists to prevent the employee from getting seriously enjoyed if not killed and therefore costing the company even MORE $... call my a cynic..

Yep. Surviving family's law suits, not to mention bad publicity for the company. May not be the company's fault, but having a fatal crime take place in your store won't bring customers flocking in to shop.
