You may remember Shasta Groene is the little girl from North Idaho who was kidnapped by Joseph Duncan. Duncan murdered her brother, mother, and step father.
She is now missing with her 2 children from Nampa Idaho, and considered endangered. Nampa isn't far from Nevada and Oregon, so she could be there, or still in Idaho.
It's a reminder that what happened to her was never going to have a 'happy ending'. The only question was the degree of pain and misery the rest of her life would entail. Even if all was fine on the surface, the horror of what happened to her and her mother and brother would always be there.

I agree. I don't think a child can recover from that. Her mother, and her mother's boyfriend were murdered, her brother Dylan and herself were kidnapped and Dylan was killed shortly after. Shasta was kept for months by Duncan, and his last words to her were on the line of "you won't forget me, will you? You'll still visit?"
What child, in this world, could ever recover from that horror? From that twisted human?
