Death at the Grand Canyon is the news again.

Obviously, the solution here is for government to step in, regulate these dangerous areas "for the public's own good", perhaps put a big wall in front of the entire area to keep people safe.

If I wanted to commit suicide yet leave my Life Insurance to my family, I might go "fall" off a cliff at the Grand Canyon.

I've been to the GC several times and was smart enough to stay away from the extreme edge. Haven't fallen off yet.

Several years ago I went to the GC with my 80-year old dad. Both of us were regularly surprised and frightened by how many people insisted on standing right on the edge for "just the right selfie." I'm actually surprised that there aren't a lot more people falling to their deaths.

many of them probably go unreported by the people they were with, who likely walked back to the gift shop to buy a snow globe or other keepsake and think to themselves; "good riddance"

my wife and I would have walked down to the bottom while there but elected not to out of concern with someone landing on us

I'm surprised more haven't died with how many have taken unnecessary risks there.

I remember looking at the unguarded edge and not wanting to get closer than 6 feet from it. Loose dirt, mud, a slight slope you can't see...no effin way.

You can't be serious. You've got a better chance of winning the lottery than you do of someone falling on you at the Grand Canyon.

I read a book on just how many accidents and deaths there have been...it was amazing. Most due to stupidity taking photos or lack of prep from hikers...

They sell that book in the gift shop at the El Tovar hotel.

Apparently not enough people are buying it.
